“A Smart City of Excellence”

In today’s presentation, I will discuss two problems that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as what we’re doing in Seat Pleasant to address these goals through the implementation of Smart City solutions and technologies.

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

The Sustainable Development Goal # 4

Target 4.4

By 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship

What we’re doing in Seat Pleasant to make progress towards Target 4.4

  • Smart City Curriculum in partnership with Prince George’s Community College
    • Adult retraining program for enhancing ICT skill sets
  • The MySeatPleasant app enhances the dissemination of information, including job postings for the city and greater region, as well as health, and financial information

Sustainable Development Goal # 11

Target 11.5

By 2030, significantly reduce the number of deaths and the number of people affected and substantially decrease the direct economic losses relative to global gross domestic product caused by disasters, including water-related disasters, with a focus on protecting the poor and people in vulnerable situation

Target 11.6

By 2030, reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management

Target 11.B

By 2020, substantially increase the number of cities and human settlements adopting and implementing integrated policies and plans towards inclusion, resource efficiency, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, resilience to disasters, and develop and implement, in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, holistic disaster risk management at all levels
